PPP’s Faisal Karim Kundi nominated as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor


Pakistan Peoples Party member Faisal Karim Kundi was appointed as the new Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday.

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member Faisal Karim Kundi was nominated as the new governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province on Friday.

Kundi is likely to take oath as the new governor of KP on Saturday (today).

Kundi has served as the PPP’s Secretary of Information and is a member of the Central Executive Committee. He also sits in the Foreign Liaison committee.

The PPP leader was elected as a member of the National Assembly (NA) in the 2008 general election. He would go on to hold the position of Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly from 2008 to 2013. .

Faisal Karim Kundi hails from Dera Ismail Khan, over 300 kilometres (km) from Peshawar.

Kundi’s appointment is seen by many as a strategic move to strengthen the PPP’s influence in KP and improve coordination between provincial and federal authorities. While many, including PPP leadership welcomed the decision, it has received mixed reactions from other political factions.

Kundi’s nomination for governorship of KP came after deliberations by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. On Friday, Bilawal also nominated Sardar Saleem Haider for the position of Punjab governorship.
