Prayer programs in churches today; Punjab police on high alert

LAHORE: Supervisory officers should check the security arrangements of churches and important places themselves, said Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar on Sunday.
He also issued directives that additional police personnel and snipers should be deployed at sensitive churches. Moreover, Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite teams have been tasked with conducting effective patrolling around churches across the province.

These orders have been issued in light of the Christian community holding prayer programs today in churches across Punjab. To ensure the safety of citizens and to prevent any untoward incident, Punjab police has been put on high alert.
IGP Anwar has issued orders for regional police officers (RPOs) and district police officers (DPOs) to increase security arrangements in churches.
Punjab Police is also continuing the search and sweep operations around churches, Christian settlements and sensitive places in the province.
IGP Anwar also urged scholars, the Christian community, as well as members of peace committees to promote interfaith harmony.
TRAFFIC POLICE IN ACTION TOO
Punjab Police is also ensuring the implementation of traffic laws across the province. According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, more than 5.416 million people were issued driving licenses this year.
More than 8.114 million challans for violation of traffic laws and over Rs 5.14 billion fines have been issued, the spokesperson said.

These challans include 252,000 challans for vehicles emitting smoke, 22,360 violators have been arrested, and fitness certificates of 234 have been confiscated.
