LAHORE: The Excise Department in Punjab is set to roll out a vanity number plate scheme next week, allowing citizens to customise their vehicle plates with personalised names and numbers.
Director Excise, Muhammad Asif, announced that the scheme will offer three categories of vanity plates: gold, platinum, and corporate. The gold category will be priced at Rs500,000, while the platinum option will cost Rs50 million.
The corporate category, designed for businesses, will be the most expensive, priced at Rs100 million.
Asif further explained that ownership of the vanity number plates will be permanently assigned to the buyers. To prevent counterfeiting, the department has developed a robust strategy, and a database of all vanity plate holders will be maintained for security purposes.
According to The News, in an unexpected twist, Mufti Qavi was reportedly appointed as the scheme’s ambassador. However, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari refuted this claim, stating that no official appointment had been made.
She added that any unauthorised action taken within the Excise Department would result in disciplinary measures.
