Preparations underway for Afghans to return home

Deadline for Afghans

WEB DESK: With confusion looming about the set date of return of Afghan immigrants from Pakistan to Afghanistan, preparations are underway on the border to ensure smooth transition.

According to DC Chaman Habib Ahmed Bangulzai two holding camps have been established, and a database camp has been set up at the Pak-Afghan border crossing point, Bab-e-Dosti.

Afghan refugees struggle with uncertainty as Pakistan weighs deportation

The Jamal Abdul Nasser Football Stadium has been declared a holding camp for Afghan families to stay overnight: “Afghan citizens at the Bab-e-Dosti camp will undergo biometric verification by NADRA. Families unable to cross the border due to any reason will be provided accommodation and food facilities.”

Bangulzai stated that the return of Afghan migrants to their homeland was delayed due to Eid holidays, and the process of deporting Afghan citizens will begin soon.

The policy to expel illegal immigrants is part of efforts to improve security amid rising terrorist attacks, which Islamabad has repeatedly linked to militant groups operating from Afghan territory.

By end of March, 878,972 undocumented Afghans have returned to their homeland, according to Radio Pakistan.
