President returns 13 bills sans signature, urges parliament to reconsider

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has sent back 13 bills to parliament without his signature.

The president sent back the unsigned bills to Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar.

Among the bills that have been sent back included the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill, which pertains to granting the police the power of arrest without a warrant.

In addition to this, the president has also returned the bill pertaining to the protection of journalists and media professionals, reiterating his commitment to press freedom.

Alvi signs five bills into law

The bills that have been returned also include the National Skills University Amendment Bill, Import and Export (Amendment) Bills, and Higher Education Commission Amendment Bill.

President Alvi has emphasised for a comprehensive review of the bills in question. He underlined the importance of parliamentary diligence in matters of legislation.

On another note, President Alvi has granted approval for the 2023 PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority) Amendment Bill. The approval was granted under Article 75 of the Constitution.
