PESHAWAR: The price of the BRT ZU card has been increased by Rs 100, posing more problems for the commuters who are already battling inflation.
According to TransPeshawar, the company responsible for the BRT ZU cards, the price of ZU card has been increased by Rs 100 taking the cost up to Rs 400 from Rs 300.
This new price will take effect starting today, December 20, 2024.
WHAT IS A BRT ZU CARD?
The BRT ZU Card is a reusable smart card designed for fare payments on Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. It functions as a digital wallet, providing both convenience and security.
Users can load money onto the card either in person or online, and registered cards offer balance protection. The Peshawar BRT ZU card can hold multiple fare products to meet individual travel needs.
To use the ZU Card, passengers tap it on the blue/green smart card target located on the farebox when boarding the bus. A single “ding” sound confirms a successful payment, while a double tone indicates an issue, such as insufficient fare. The card also includes a 90-minute transfer feature automatically activated upon payment.
Originally distributed for free as part of a promotional offer, the ZU Card now costs Rs. 400 when purchased at BRT terminals, ZU Stations, or Ticket Vending Machines.
For those who prefer digital payments, the ZU Mobile App provides a cashless option, allowing users to recharge and use the virtual wallet for fare payments. The app also sends notifications about delays, closures, bus arrival times, and maps of nearby stations.
Overall, the BRT ZU Card and its mobile app offer a user-friendly and secure way to navigate Peshawar’s public transport system.
