ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to extend the deadline for the registration of non-registered VPNs by two weeks.
According to PTA sources, this decision was made during a review meeting following the Interior Ministry’s directive to block unregistered VPNs.
Sources revealed that the deadline for VPN registration has been set for November 30, after which a crackdown against unregistered VPNs will begin on December 1.
A successful trial of VPN blocking has already been conducted, with a second trial planned in the coming days, according to sources.

According to PTA, unregistered VPN holders are being given sufficient time to register before they will be shut down.
So far more than 20,000 companies and freelancers have successfully registered their VPNs.
For those who have yet to register, they need to fill out an online form that includes the CNIC, company registration details, and taxpayer status.
Freelancers will need to provide proof of their affiliation with a project or company, such as a letter or email.
The approval process for this registration is completed within 8 to 10 hours, according to PTA.
