PTA shuts down 3,248 YouTube channels involved in anti-state campaigns

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has shut down 3,248 YouTube channels involved in campaigns against defense and state institutions within the country. These channels were found to be involved in anti-state campaigns during monitoring, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed to Hum Investigation Team.

PTA has also blocked 1,19,496 URLs, which include 68 Indian YouTube channels as well, 13 Indian news channels and 20 news websites.

YouTube channels of two Pakistani journalists were also blocked, sources told HUM Investigation Team. Official statistics show that Pakistan is requesting to block 829 immoral and insulting posts daily.

In the last three and a half years, PTA has requested social media apps to remove one million posts. Over this time period, over 200,000 URLs targeting defense institutions have been blocked, 400,000 URLs with immoral posts and over 9,000 URLs insulting the judiciary and judges have also been blocked, official statistics revealed.

Moreover, 100,000 anti-Islam posts have been deleted and with numerous posts promoting sectarian violence and containing hate speech have been blocked.

Official statistics show that more than 53,000 thousand YouTube posts have been blocked, 150,000 TikTok posts have been deleted, 150,000 Facebook posts have been blocked and 50,000 X (formerly Twitter) posts have been deleted.
