ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman has taken legal action by challenging the indictment proceedings that occurred on October 23 in the Cipher Case. The legal challenge, filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), raises several crucial points related to the trial.

According to the petitioner, the indictment proceedings took place in violation of legal provisions. The law stipulates that charges can only be framed seven days after the distribution of the case copy. The trial court is alleged to have overlooked this statutory requirement, haphazardly proceeding with the charge framing process.

The petitioner contends that a hasty trial may adversely affect fundamental constitutional rights and the due process of law. Furthermore, it has been claimed that the apex court did not provide directives to expedite the proceedings or to conduct the trial on a day-to-day basis.

An essential aspect of the case, the central evidence in the form of the cipher telegraph, has not been presented, rendering it impossible for the trial to proceed effectively. The petitioner is requesting the IHC to declare the Official Secrets Act Court’s order of October 23 as null and void.
