ISLAMABAD: Tensions escalated in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as the Punjab Police failed to present Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman in a contempt case. Punjab Police cited security concerns for the absence.
In a four-member bench hearing, led by Member Sindh Nisar Durrani, the case of contempt against the ECP was under discussion. PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar attended the proceedings along with PTI Chairman’s lawyer Shoaib Shaheen. Expressing his displeasure PTI’s lawyer Shoaib said, “The election commission was actually insulted today.”

Punjab AIG Operation presented a report to the Election Commission, raising concerns about threats to the life of PTI Chairman. However, Member Sindh Nisar Durrani questioned the veracity of these claims, seeking clarification on whether the incarcerated politician himself perceived these threats.
AIG Operation explained that the area in Rawalpindi, where PTI Chairman is kept, is densely populated and not devoid of potential dangers. The ECP requested a written statement from the accused himself regarding these concerns.
The Ministry of Interior suggested that the ECP conduct the case hearing in Adiala Jail due to the security risks involved. In response, the ECP adjourned the hearing to November 13, summoning the Federal Interior Secretary to address the security concerns and determine the course of action in the contempt case.
