FIA summons Shandana Gulzar

ISLAMABAD: Shandana Gulzar, a prominent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, has been taken into custody by Islamabad authorities under section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) on charges of inciting animosity towards institutions.

However the legal representative of PTI, Sher Afzal Khan, alleges that Shandana Gulzar was apprehended by Islamabad police and plainclothes officials in what he claims was a forcible abduction, citing her mother as an eyewitness to the distressing incident.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad police have confirmed Shandana Gulzar’s detainment under the provisions of section 16 of the MPO. According to police sources, she was apprehended in the Bara Kahu locality of the federal capital.

A case of sedition has been filed against Shandana Gulzar Khan, a former member of the National Assembly and PTI leader, for her alleged role in inciting discord and disseminating enmity against established institutions. The case was registered at the Women’s Police Station in Islamabad, stemming from her participation in a televised discussion on a private channel.

Shandana Gulzar secured a seat in the National Assembly through the 2018 general elections, representing women from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa region. Her political career has seen her occupy roles such as deputy minister and parliamentary secretary within the Ministry of Commerce.
