ISLAMABAD: Despite escalating tensions with India, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) appears more focused on the release of its incarcerated leader, Imran Khan as it has once again linked national unity and political stability to his freedom, urging the government to prioritise his release over all else
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and senior PTI leader Omar Ayub said India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty was nothing less than a ticking time bomb and a declaration of war against Pakistan.
In a statement on social media platform X, Ayub warned that every moment after India’s move posed a serious threat to Pakistan’s national security. He criticised the current government, saying it lacked direction, and called for PTI leader Imran Khan’s release in the interest of national stability.
“Suspension of Indus Water Treaty by India is serious threat to peace in the region”
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Barrister Dr. Muhammad Ali Saif also condemned India’s post-Pahalgam behaviour, calling it “regrettable and condemnable.” He said Modi’s government was using the incident as part of a larger conspiracy to defame Pakistan.
Dr. Saif claimed that India was deliberately blaming Pakistan to destabilise the region for its own political gains. He urged that the time calls for national unity and political stability, which he said could only come through PTI leadership.
He stressed that the current “Form-47-based” setup was incapable of ensuring unity, and said Pakistan needed a government based on true public mandate, not engineered results.
India has sealed its borders, downgraded diplomatic ties, and in an unprecedented step unilaterally suspended the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). The move comes amid unverified claims by the BJP-led government and Indian media accusing Pakistan of backing cross-border terrorism.
Pakistan has strongly denied involvement in the attack and expressed condolences over the loss of lives.
