PTI MNA Iqbal Afridi objects to female participant’s dressing

PTI MNA objection over female member's dressing

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Iqbal Afridi stirred a debate during a National Assembly Standing Committee on Power meeting when he raised objections over the dressing of a female participant.

The female representative, who was from K-Electric, was reportedly wearing clothing that Afridi deemed “inappropriate” for such a formal setting.

The incident occurred during a routine committee session, where discussions were focused on critical issues related to the power sector.

PTI MNA Iqbal Afridi interrupted the proceedings to express his concern, suggesting that there should be Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place regarding the dress code for participants attending official meetings.

He emphasized that the attire worn by the K-Electric representative was not suitable for a formal government setting.

“The national assembly is a place of decorum, and it is essential that all participants, irrespective of gender, adhere to a dress code that reflects the seriousness of the discussions taking place,” Afridi stated.

He further added that without such guidelines, the focus of important meetings could be compromised by unnecessary distractions.

Afridi’s comments sparked a mixed reaction within the committee. Chairman of the Committee Mohammad Idrees objected to the remarks of the PTI MNA and said such remarks are uncalled for and apologized to the female participant in question.
