PTI protest Rawalpindi: Murree Road shops likely to be closed today

RAWALPINDI: Trade activities around Murree Road and Raja Bazaar are likely to remain suspended today due to the protest call by Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) in Rawalpindi.

The PTI has called for a protest today at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi, leading authorities to seal off the Murree Road and surrounding roads.

The public is expected to face significant inconvenience today as markets surrounding Murree Road remain closed due to a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest. Authorities have sealed off several routes with containers, restricting access to the busy commercial areas, further exacerbating the situation for commuters and shoppers.

Many businesses along Murree Road and adjoining streets have shut their doors, leaving citizens struggling to purchase daily essentials.

A significant police force has also been deployed both inside and outside the venue, preventing individuals from entering for leisurely activities.

Anticipating disruption in their business due to the protest, the shopkeepers of the nearby Raja Bazaar and Murree Road have expressed their annoyance at the planned activity.

“The government should allocate a separate space for protests as it disturbs business activities and movement of people on roads,” said Traders Association President Shahid Ghafoor Paracha.

He added that traders were already suffering from financial woes due to the high cost of electricity and gas.

He complained that too many protests had been held in the garrison city.

Earlier this year, Jamaat-i-Islami held a days-long sit-in on Murree Road against the high cost of electricity. There were also demonstrations by teachers, Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan and other religious parties.
