KARACHI:  The Sindh government has declared a public holiday across the province on Saturday, August 9, to mark the 282nd annual Urs of Sufi poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

A formal notification announcing the public holiday in Sindh has been issued.

According to Sindh Culture Secretary Muhammad Khan Kalhoro, the three-day Urs celebrations will begin on August 9, with preparations already completed.

The provincial culture minister has also invited the Sindh governor to attend the opening ceremony. Thousands of devotees, scholars, and admirers of Shah Latif are expected from across the country.

The Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad has banned the display of weapons during the Urs to ensure a peaceful environment.

ARRANGEMENTS FINALISED FOR URS

Preparations for the 282nd annual Urs of Sufi saint and poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA) have been completed. The three-day celebrations will be held in Bhit Shah from August 9 to 11.

A high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Hyderabad Fayaz Hussain Abbasi reviewed arrangements, with officials from various departments briefing on their plans. HESCO was instructed to make Bhit Shah a load-shedding-free zone and arrange backup generators.

Health services, Rescue 1122 and PPHI will remain on high alert, setting up medical camps, ambulance services and mosquito sprays. For security, Section 144 will be enforced from August 7 to 11, with 2,688 police, 100 lady police, Rangers, walk-through gates, CCTV cameras and control rooms deployed to ensure safety.
