Punjab Civil Defence Gets Rs500m for a major upgrade

Punjab

LAHORE: In a major development, the provincial government has provided Rs500 million to the Punjab Civil Defence to develop the system amid the prevailing tensions in the region.

The Home Department released the amount under the head of Internal Security Fund to achieve multiple goals. It is said that the target is to procure latest equipment and increase the number of volunteers.

That’s why the home secretary has directed the Civil Defence to register one million volunteers who will receive training to coup with any disaster across province.

Earlier, the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order had approved the allocation. The Civil Defence will now utilise this amount during the current fiscal year after meeting the legal requirements.

INDIAN AGGRESSION

Punjab is the most-populated province in Pakistan. Like in the past, it experienced the brunt of Indian aggression along both the Working Boundary and the international border.

In this scenario, the Punjab government decided to strengthen the civil defence capabilities, a sector which has been ignored in the past.

OBJECTIVES

The amount would be used to buy mine detectors, cameras, electronic sirens, fire extinguishers, IT apparatus, blankets to protect from explosions and other required apparatus.

During the last five days, the Rescue 1122 and civil defence authorities provided basic training to 0.118289 million people. They held special training sessions in different parts of Punjab.

Evacuation process as well as fire extinguishing and first aid were the focus of this process. The participants, including students, were enabled to coup with any emergency situation.
