Punjab CM approves construction of two new jails for women

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday approved the construction of two new women’s jails in the province.

The nod was given by Maryam Nawaz while chairing a meeting to review jail reforms.

The meeting was attended by Punjab’s senior minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Information Minister Azma Bukhari and others.

In the meeting, serious concerns were expressed about the possible external contacts of criminals from the prisons and Maryam Nawaz gave instructions to the authorities to make the cybersecurity arrangements of the prisons foolproof. She also called for a comprehensive plan for prison reforms.

Four driving training centers established for women in Lahore

CM Maryam approved the establishment of women’s jails in Faisalabad and Rawalpindi and directed that these jails should be outside the cities.

Maryam Maryam Nawaz Sharif also approved the project of revamping Bakshi Khana and lock-ups across Punjab in the meeting.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Azma Zahid Bokhari, MPA Sania Ashiq, Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Home Secretary Nurul Amin Mengal, IG Prisons Farooq Nazir and others officials attended the meeting.
