LAHORE: Punjab government is continuing strict action against vehicles emitting smoke, Lahore Traffic Police said on Tuesday.

Lahore Traffic Police spokesperson told media that so far, Rs 900,000 has been imposed in fines on owners of 386 smoke emitting vehicles.

In connected efforts, 49 such vehicles were also taken off the road by the police, while e-challans were issued to 89 vehicles for emitting smoke.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar said that entry of heavy traffic is closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, in the provincial capital.

WINTER HOLIDAYS

The provincial government has also announced winter vacations for public and private schools to begin from December 20. As of now, the traffic pressure is already lower in Lahore, due to school schedules as well as road closures due to political situation.

Both these factors combined have improved the air quality index (ADI) of Lahore during the past few days. However, the smog and pollution situation remains hazardous enough for the provincial government to keep SOPs intact.
