Punjab has become the country’s agricultural powerhouse, says army chief

LAHORE: Highlighting Punjab’s emergence as the country’s agricultural powerhouse, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s economic development.
Speaking at the launch of the Green Pakistan Initiative in Cholistan, he praised Punjab’s leadership and farmers for their efforts in modernising the agricultural sector.
The launch ceremony was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain and Musadik Malik, along with other officials.
The army chief commended the Punjab government’s Green Corporate Project, calling its rapid progress “encouraging” and a sign of economic advancement.
As part of the Green Pakistan Initiative, the Green Agri Mall and Service Company has been introduced to provide farmers with high-quality seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides at discounted rates, along with access to modern agricultural machinery, including drones, on affordable rental terms.
PM Shehbaz vows to advance objective of combating climate change
A Smart Agri Farm, spanning 5,000 acres, has also been launched as a model for advanced irrigation techniques and water-efficient farming, aimed at reducing costs and increasing productivity.
Additionally, the Agricultural Research and Facility Centre will offer soil testing and research services, working in collaboration with institutions across the country to promote agricultural innovation.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif hailed the initiative as a “revolution” in modern agriculture, emphasizing its potential to uplift farmers and contribute to Punjab’s economic progress.
The Green Pakistan Initiative aims to transform agriculture by ensuring access to quality resources and technology, providing comprehensive support to farmers for sustainable growth.
