Punjab issues over 4.8m driving licences; 126 violators arrested in Lahore

LAHORE: Punjab Police reported the issuance of over 4.876 million driving licences across the province so far this year. According to the spokesperson, more than 7.3 million traffic challans have been issued for violations, resulting in fines exceeding Rs 4.52 billion.
Enforcement actions included challans for 2.5 million vehicles emitting smoke. Police also closed 22,276 vehicles in stations and confiscated 214 fitness certificates.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar stated that enforcement against traffic violators should continue and directed authorities to take steps for the recovery of unpaid fines. He also noted that citizens are being trained in 127 driving training schools operated by the Punjab Police.
LAHORE POLICE CRACKS DOWN AGAINST VIOLATORS
In Lahore, 126 individuals were arrested during July for one-wheeling, with 126 cases registered. Over the course of the year, 1,187 people were arrested for one-wheeling, and 1,067 cases were registered, according to the Lahore Police spokesperson.
Operations against one-wheeling and underage driving are ongoing, said the Lahore Police Chief. Special checkpoints have been established on major highways to monitor such activities. Traffic Police, the Dolphin Squad, and other special teams are working jointly to prevent incidents involving underage drivers, one-wheeling, and racing.
The Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore has instructed action against mechanics who modify motorcycles to facilitate one-wheeling and racing.
