Punjab launches home tree plantation initiative

LAHORE: The Punjab government has started a new tree plantation initiative titled “ek call milaaen, pauda apne ghar lagwaaen” [Make a call, get a plant for your home], aimed at promoting environmental awareness and green spaces in residential areas.

As part of the program, 17 types of plants will be provided for plantation in homes. These include fruit-bearing and shade-giving trees such as Pomegranate, Mango, Jamun, Patajan, Pulkan, Raat Ki Rani, Mulberry, Neem, New Palm, Chandna, Vive, Kachnar, Gulchen, Amaltas, Tapiobia, Jurufa, and Har Sanghar.

In the first phase, the program will be available to residents of Lahore. Citizens can request a plant by calling a dedicated helpline number, 1399, which has been launched to facilitate participation and provide information about the initiative.

Officials state that the program is intended to contribute to tree plantation efforts and environmental improvement across urban areas.
