Punjab: MDCAT fee for overseas Pakistanis set at $10,000

LAHORE: A $10,000 fee has been set for overseas Pakistanis to appear in the MDCAT exam for admission to public and private medical and dental colleges in Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired an important meeting on health sector affairs, during which the new admission policy for government and private medical and dental colleges across the province was approved.

The meeting decided that passing the MDCAT test would be mandatory for admissions in public medical colleges. It was also decided to fix a fee of $10,000 for overseas Pakistanis appearing in MDCAT.

Regarding private medical colleges, it was agreed that candidates would deposit one-third of the fee with the University of Health Sciences (UHS) at the time of admission.

After the final merit list, UHS will transfer the amount to the respective college, while successful students will submit the remaining fee directly to the institution.

The meeting also agreed on the proposal of mandatory service after postgraduate training in private hospitals.

The Chief Minister termed the commencement of surgeries at Sahiwal Cardiac Centre a positive step and directed the establishment of a transparent system for treatment at the Ablation Centre in Mayo Hospital.

Maryam Nawaz stressed that free treatment facilities should be available to patients in every hospital in Punjab. She said her aim is to ensure treatment for every cancer patient in the province.

The Chief Minister also directed immediate steps for the establishment of Nawaz Sharif Medical City and approved the formation of boards of management for various institutions.
