Punjab police registers over 55,000 electricity theft cases

LAHORE: Punjab Police have registered over 55,000 cases related to electricity theft across the province, including more than 14,000 cases in Lahore, according to a spokesperson for the department.

The police also arrested 37,756 suspects involved in electricity theft from various regions of Punjab. In Lahore alone, 17,923 individuals were taken into custody in connection with electricity theft cases.

According to the spokesperson, challans have been completed in 34,641 of the total cases. Additionally, over 2,000 individuals found guilty of electricity theft have been penalised with fines and other legal action for causing losses to the national treasury.

The crackdown is part of an ongoing effort to address power theft in the province.
