Quest for love or money: US woman demands $5000 weekly

KARACHI: A US woman, Onya Andrew Robinson, who travelled to Pakistan to meet her teenage lover, has not only refused to leave Karachi but is now also demanding money.

Adding to the controversy, she is now demanding $5,000 per interview, declaring, “No money, no talk. It’s expensive to talk.”

Robinson, a 33-year-old divorcee and mother of two, arrived in Karachi on October 11, 2024, after falling in love online with 19-year-old Nidal Memon.

The young man had promised to marry her, but reality took a different turn. Upon her arrival, Memon’s family strongly opposed the relationship due to the age difference, her marital history, and her children. Facing intense family pressure, Memon abandoned Robinson, leaving her stranded in an unfamiliar country.

With her visa expired, Robinson remained at Jinnah International Airport for seven days, hoping for assistance.

A two-member team from the US Consulate met her to discuss possible solutions, but she refused all help, including an offer to return to the United States.

US authorities clarified that they could not force her to leave against her will.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior arranged a Qatar Airways flight for her return, scheduled for 10:00 AM, but Robinson refused to board. The flight eventually departed at 10:30 AM without her.

Officials later decided to grant Robinson a 15-day visa extension to help resolve her case. However, her continued refusal to cooperate has complicated efforts to send her back.

With no clear resolution in sight, the US woman remains in Karachi, making headlines for her unexpected demands and refusal to leave.
