Quetta reports death from Congo virus as cases rise


A 23-year-old patient succumbed to the Congo virus while receiving treatment at the Fatima Jinnah Hospital, according to hospital administration.

QUETTA: A 23-year-old patient succumbed to the Congo virus while receiving treatment at the Fatima Jinnah Hospital, according to hospital administration.

The patient was confirmed to have contracted the virus four days pr8ioor to his death.

The patient hailed from the suburban area of Kuchlak, Balochistan.

The incident marks  the eighth reported fatality due to the Congo virus in Balochistan alone this year.

In light of the increasing number of cases, the Director General of the Health Department of Balochistan recently reached out to the Director General of the Livestock Department, pointing to an increase in patients presenting with Congo virus symptoms at the Fatima Jinnah Hospital.

Health officials have expressed concerns regarding the potential spread of disease in Quetta and surrounding areas. In response, the Livestock Department mobilised emergency teams at the city’s entry points to prevent the entry of cattle without prior disinfection measures.

The Congo virus is a disease transmitted through contact with infected animals. It poses a huge public health risk, particularly in areas where livestock is prevalent.

Authorities said they were taking precautionary measure to mitigate the spread of the virus as the situation develops.
