ISLAMABAD: With the deadline for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s intra-party election nomination papers now closed, the spotlight turns to the four contenders vying for the party’s top leadership position.
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan is among the candidates who have thrown their hats into the ring for the PTI chairmanship. Joining him are Ashraf Qureshi from Sindh, Muhammad Aslam from Balochistan, and Naveed Anjum from KP, all seeking to secure the helm of the party.
A 15-member panel, spearheaded by Omar Ayub, has also submitted nomination papers for the central secretary general slot.
In Punjab, Yasmin Rashid, Muhammad Khan Madni and Asad Hanif are in the race for the presidency, while Haleem Adil, Khawand Bakhsh and Ghulam Muhammad are vying for the same slot in Sindh.
Meanwhile, six candidates, including Dr Munir Baloch, are competing for the Balochistan presidency. The Balochistan candidates include Jafar Agha, Aminullah Jogezai, Dawood Shah, Abdul Sadiq and Babar Marghzani. For the KP presidency, a panel led by Ali Amin Gandapur has submitted their nomination papers.
The PTI intra-party election is scheduled to take place nationwide on March 3, as per the announced timetable.
Ahead of the general election, the Election Commission of Pakistan stripped the PTI of its iconic ‘bat’ electoral symbol after nullifying its intra-party polls, and the party fielded candidates as independents.
