Rain disaster leaves nine dead in KP

PESHAWAR: At least nine people died and eight were injured when heavy rains hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported on Monday.

According to reports, 37 houses were partially damaged and seven houses were completely destroyed due to floods and rain across the province.

PDMA, Rescue 1122, and district administration have all been on high alert, a spokesperson of the KP Relief Department said.

Relief materials were provided to the affected families of Upper Chitral, the spokesperson said..
He informed that a detailed assessment of the damage will be further carried out as soon as flood waters recede in Lower Chitral.

According to the spokesperson, communities at risk in Lower Chitral were shifted to safer locations in advance. They were also provided with food items and dry ration.

Meanwhile in Lower Dir, the roads have been cleared for traffic by the district administration.
The same has been done for flood-hit Koghuzi, where the district administration also mobilized heavy machinery for the restoration of the roads.

PDMA issued an advisory to all concerned institutions and administration besides giving on-the-spot instructions to take precautionary measures regarding rains, flash floods, urban flooding, and flooding in rivers.

The Met Office has predicted continued heavy rain and thunderstorms in Upper KP until July 26.
