Rain, flood alerts across Pakistan: Residents urged to be cautious

WEB DESK: As torrential rain continues to lash various parts of Pakistan, authorities have issued flood alerts for several regions, urging residents to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of heavy rainfall leading to potential flooding in numerous areas. From tonight until April 14, rain-fed rivers in Dera Ghazi Khan, Koh Sulaiman, Khuzdar, Ziarat, Zhob, Shirani, Muslim Bagh, Quetta, Pashin, Kech, Panjgur, Gwadar, and Turbat are at risk of overflowing, posing a threat to low-lying areas.

Additionally, local rivers in Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, and areas adjacent to the Kabul River may experience flooding due to heavy rain, with landslides feared in Baltistan.
Forecasters predict more rain accompanied by gale-force winds and thundershowers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad, Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Upper Sindh on Sunday. The regions of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Upper Balochistan, and Upper Punjab are likely to witness heavy rainfall and hailstorms, with snowfall expected in northern mountainous areas.

Islamabad: Residents of the capital and surrounding areas are advised to brace for more rain, gusty winds, and thundershowers on Sunday, with heavy rain and hail possible at some locations.
Punjab: Numerous districts including Murree, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, and Bahawalpur are expected to experience heavy rain, gusty winds, and thundershowers on Sunday, with the possibility of hailstorms at certain places.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and other districts are forecasted to receive more rain and snowfall, accompanied by gusty winds and thundershowers. Heavy rain and hail may occur in some areas.
Sindh: While most districts will experience partly cloudy weather, districts such as Dadu, Larkana, and Karachi are at risk of wind, thunderstorms, and thundershowers. Light rain with strong winds is expected in Karachi and surrounding areas.

Balochistan: Regions including Quetta, Zhob, Gwadar, and Turbat are likely to witness intermittent rain, gusty winds, and thundershowers, with the potential for heavy rainfall and hailstorms.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir: Both regions are expected to face more rain, gusty winds, and thundershowers, along with snowfall in mountainous areas. Heavy rain and hailstorms are also possible.
Authorities have advised citizens to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to mitigate risks associated with the ongoing severe weather conditions.
