Rain likely to bring relief for heat-hit Punjab

LAHORE: The heat struck citizens of Punjab are likely to get some respite from tonight as the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of expected dust storms, strong winds, and rain across many districts of Punjab

The weather system is likely to continue until June 16.

According to the spokesperson, strong winds with rain are expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Gujranwala.

There is also a chance of rainfall in Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mianwali. Rain is also expected in southern Punjab, including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar.

PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia said that on the directives of Punjab’s Chief Minister, district administrations have been put on alert. Health, irrigation, local government, communication, and livestock departments have also been alerted.

According to PDMA, the rain spell is expected to ease the intensity of heat and ongoing heatwave.

Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s plain areas, dusty winds are expected. At night, thunderstorms with rain may hit Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Shangla, Kohistan, and Abbottabad.

On the other hand, most districts of Sindh are likely to remain very hot and dry, while heat intensity is also expected to continue across most parts of Balochistan.
