Rain plays havoc in Lahore, nine killed

LAHORE: Atleast nine people have been killed due to continuous heavy rain in various parts of Lahore leading to tragic roof collapse incidents.

In Raiwind’s Mission Colony, a house roof collapsed, killing three people. According to Rescue 1122, the Urban Search and Rescue special squad is actively working to retrieve those trapped under the debris. The operation is still underway with the help of live locators.

In another tragic incident at Mureed Wala, Thokar Niaz Baig, the roof of a house collapsed, killing five members of the same family.

Another man was killed in a roof collapse incident at Kot Jamal Pura, Raiwand.                

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep sorrow and offered condolences to the grieving family.

Other areas like Kot Jamal Pura, Waris Colony, and Allah Hoo Chowk also reported roof collapses and waterlogging due to continuous rain in Lahore. Emergency vehicles and rescue teams are present at the affected sites and continuing their relief work.

WASA Action

DG Punjab WASA Tayyab Fareed and MD WASA Ghufran Ahmad visited several areas of the city early in the morning. They inspected water drainage operations in Liberty, Kalma Chowk, Garden Town, Gaddafi Stadium, and Main Boulevard Gulberg.

  • Highest: 171 mm in Pani Wala Talab area
  • Iqbal Town: 169 mm
  • Upper Mall: 162 mm
  • Tajpura: 167 mm
  • Farukh Abad: 157 mm

WEATHER UPDATE:


According to the Met Office, light rain is expected to continue throughout the day. Maximum temperature in the city will stay around 31°C, while the minimum will be 26°C.
