LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Punjab (PDMA) Tuesday issued a weather alert, saying heavy rain and thunderstorm expected in various districts of Punjab in the coming days.

The PDMA said a heavy rainfall with potential thunderstorm is forecasted in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal and Gujrat from April 30 to May 4.

Moreover, the department has also issued weather alert for Lahore, Jhelum and Gujranwala, warning that storing windstorm and rain may hit these cities from April 30 to May 4.

Similarly, the department has forecasted the rain with slight thunderstorm in Kasur, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Jhang and Mianwali too.

Earlier, the PDMA had issued guidelines to relevant departments, urging heightened preparedness for emergency situations.

The PDMA warned of heavy temperatures across the province, rising by four to seven degrees Celsius this month, with southern Punjab districts particularly vulnerable to extreme heat.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that the ongoing heatwave will persist across the country until April 30.

No rain is expected before May, the PMD said in its latest advisory.

A strong high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere is pushing temperatures well above normal, especially in southern and central regions.
