Ramadan moon sighted across Pakistan, first fast tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The Ramadan moon has been sighted across Pakistan, and the first fast will be observed tomorrow, Sunday, March 2, 2025.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee had announced Friday that the crescent for the holy month of Ramadan was not sighted in Pakistan, and the first Ramadan would be observed on Sunday.

Today, moon has been sighted in the all major stations of the country, as predicted by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), which expects that first Ramadan would fall in Pakistan on March 2, 2025.
Besides Pakistan, India and Bangladesh will also begin Ramadan from tomorrow.

Muslims across the sub-continent will gather up in mosques today for Taraweeh prayers, and first sehri will be eaten at dawn before the Fajr prayers.
Eid-ul-Fitr likely on March 31
As for Eid-ul-Fitr, SUPARCO predicts that the Shawwal moon is expected to be sighted on March 30, with Eid falling on March 31 in most regions.
School timings for Ramadan
Revised school timings have been announced for private and public schools of Punjab and Sindh for the holy month of Ramadan.
Fasting duration between 13 to 14 hours
In Pakistan, fasting duration will be about 13 hours, starting from Fajr time and ending by Maghrib or sunset.
According to Islamic prayer times by Google, Sehri time in Islamabad on First Ramadan would end on 5:13 am, while Iftar would held on 18:05 pm.

In Arab and Middle Eastern countries, fasting hours will vary.
Initially, fasts in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait will last around 13 hours, gradually increasing to 14 hours as the month progresses.
Ramadan Greetings
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have extended Ramadan greetings to the nation and the Muslim Ummah on the beginning of the holy month, calling it a month of mercy, forgiveness, and salvation.
In his message, the president said that Ramadan teaches patience, empathy, equality, self-purification, unity, and devotion to Allah.

He urged the nation to embrace charity during the holy month and support the needy to foster a spirit of sacrifice.
“Ramadan provides an opportunity for both individual and collective reformation, reminding us to help those in need and be mindful of the struggles of the less fortunate.”
President Zardari appealed to the people to give generously in charity and take special care of the needy, stressing that it is crucial to stand by the underprivileged beyond one’s capacity.
He prayed that Ramadan brings peace, stability, progress, and prosperity to Pakistan, and that Allah grants the nation the strength to uphold patience, piety, and compassion.
