Ramazan moon: Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets today


Ruet-e-Hilal committee meeting today

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held today (Friday) in Peshawar for the sighting of the Ramazan moon.

Committee Chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over the meeting.

Simultaneously, zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will convene at their respective headquarters to assess moon-sighting testimonies.

In Islamabad, the zonal committee will meet at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.

Officials from the Pakistan Meteorological Department and SUPARCO will also attend the meeting.

After reviewing the reports, both central and zonal committees will compile their findings. The official announcement regarding the beginning of Ramazan will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

The holy month is expected to begin on March 2, 2025, as the crescent moon is likely to be sighted on the evening of March 1, according to the met office.

BANKS TO REMAIN CLOSED ON FIRST RAMAZAN

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks (MFBs) will remain closed for public dealings on the first working day of Ramazan 1446 AH for Zakat deduction.

The new regulations state that Zakat will be deducted from accounts with a balance of Rs179,689 or more on the first day of Ramadan, which falls on March 1 or 2, 2025.

However, bank employees will be required to report to work as usual and carry out official duties, except for transactions involving the public.
