PESHAWAR: In view of the continuous displacement of the local population due to the tense situation in Tehsil Mamond of the tribal district of Bajaur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Deputy Commissioner Bajaur has demanded the provincial government to set up temporary relief camps for 2,000 displaced families in Khar Bajaur.
Due to the ongoing targeted operation by the security forces against militants in Tehsil Mamund of Bajaur district and the poor law and order situation, more than 1,000 families have so far migrated from their areas, according to local sources.
Yesterday, the Deputy Commissioner Bajaur sent a letter to the Secretary Relief and Rehabilitation Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the letter, the security forces have launched a targeted operation against militants in Tehsil Mamund and according to information, the families are leaving this area and moving to other safe areas of the district.
According to the letter from the Deputy Commissioner Bajaur, 18,500 families are residing in different villages of Tehsil Mamund and most of the families who have left the area are going to the host communities, however, there is a strong possibility that some families will demand the establishment of a camp.
DC Bajaur has demanded through a letter from the Secretary Relief Department to establish a temporary camp for 2,000 families in Khar Bajaur so that the people displaced from Tehsil Mamund can be adjusted in it.
According to the relief volunteers working in the camp of Al Khidmat Foundation to assist the displaced families, due to the operation and the tense situation, the displacement of people from Tehsil Mamond has been going on for the past five days and so far more than 500 families have registered in their camp, while the number of unregistered families who have migrated is also quite high.
On the other hand, according to reports, the Bajaur National Jirga has held two rounds of talks with the militants in the last two days to establish peace in the area, which have not yielded any positive results so far. According to reports, the jirga demanded that the militants vacate the area and return to Afghanistan, which the militants have rejected.
