ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a reduction of Rs1.23 per unit in electricity prices for consumers across the country.

A notification to this effect issued by the authority states that the reduction in the electricity prices has been made as part of the monthly fuel adjustment for December.

For DISCOs, the reduction applies to the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for December 2024.

For K-Electric (KE) consumers, NEPRA has approved a similar Rs1.23 per unit reduction for November 2024. This amount will be adjusted in the February 2025 electricity bills.

This reduction applies to most consumers, except lifeline users, domestic users consuming up to 300 units, Electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), prepaid electricity consumers, and agriculture consumers

However, Time of Use (ToU) meter users will benefit from the reduction regardless of their electricity usage.

The discount will appear separately in the February 2025 bills. If any bills are issued before NEPRA’s final notification, the adjustment will be made in the following month.

NEPRA WARNS KE

NEPRA has warned K-Electric (KE) of serious consequences if it fails to provide the required information on time regarding the rejection of net-metering applications.

According to NEPRA’s order, KE was directed on May 15, 2024, to submit details within seven days about net-metering applications it had rejected due to overloaded distribution systems and transformers.

However, KE did not comply and missed the deadline. Even after a reminder on June 13, 2024, the company failed to submit the data. Later, on June 28, 2024, KE requested an extension until July 15, 2024.

NEPRA has now cautioned KE to provide the information without further delay or face consequences.
