Respite from heat: Rain likely today in Karachi

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has said that rain showers along with thunderstorms are expected to lash Karachi on Thursday (today) and Friday providing relief to the residents from the intense heat

Storms have also been forecast to occur before the thundershowers, as per the Met Office. Moreover, rain is also expected in the suburbs of Karachi during today afternoon or evening.

According to the met office, moist currents from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are penetrating southern and eastern parts of the country and are likely to enter upper parts from Thursday, as thundershowers with gusty winds are making their way in parts of Sindh and other provinces.

No more ‘free’ water for Karachi residents

Karachi has been hit by extremely hot weather since Saturday with soaring mercury crossing 40 degrees Celsius, temperatures that are too high for coastal areas. The heatwave has led to 450 deaths according to Edhi Center

For the past few years, Karachi has been witnessing hazardous weather, especially during summers in the form of heat waves along with no cool breeze in the atmosphere.

KARACHI COMMISSIONER REFUTES LARGE SCALE OF DEATHS DUE TO HEAT

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi has refuted claims of large-scale deaths in the city due to an intense heatwave, saying that 10 persons lost their lives in two days in the Karachi division.

He said that data collected from different sources confirmed the demise of 10 individuals due to humid conditions.

Syed Hasan Naqvi cited the collected data from different sources including patient information from hospitals, data of graveyard burials from Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and information from mortuaries.

The commissioner said that the reported large-scale deaths in the city are not accurate as those figures have not been confirmed by any source. He added that around 1700 patients with heat stroke were brought to all hospitals of the Karachi division.
