JHELUM: Brigadier (retd) Amir Hamza, who was also former director general of the Emergency Services Academy, was shot dead on Tuesday in a gun attack near the Lillah interchange in Jhelum district. His wife and daughter were also wounded in the incident.

A police case has been registered against four unknown assailants in the jurisdiction of the Lillah police station.

The complaint, lodged by the deceased’s brother, Principal Muhammad Ayub of Commerce College, includes charges of murder and attempted murder against the unidentified attackers, according to Express News.

Ayub stated in the complaint that his brother, Brigadier (retd) Hamza, was travelling with his wife Safia and daughter Muskan to visit another daughter in Chakwal for Eid. Ayub and his cousin were following on a motorcycle.

As the car slowed near the Lillah interchange, two motorcycles with four armed men surrounded the vehicle and opened fire, killing Hamza on the spot. The attackers ensured their target was dead before firing aerial shots as they fled, Ayub added.

A source from Rescue 1122 confirmed that Brigadier Hamza died at the scene while his wife and 21-year-old daughter sustained injuries.
