Rising water level: Rawal Dam spillways opened again

ISLAMABAD: Due to the last night’s heavy rain, the spillways of Rawal Dam have been opened once again after the water level in the dam reached its dead level.
The decision was made by the district administration after the water level in the dam reached 1,752 feet following last night’s heavy downpour.
Before opening the spillways, sirens were sounded to alert nearby residents. The district administration had also issued precautionary measures, advising citizens to avoid going near rivers and streams.
Residents of low-lying areas were urged to follow safety protocols, and in case of any emergency, they were instructed to immediately contact emergency services at 16.
Livestock owners were advised to move their animals to safer locations in a timely manner.
According to the district administration, all emergency measures have been put in place to deal with potential flood situations. Strict monitoring of rivers, streams, and bridges will continue to ensure public safety.
Nullah Leh water level also starts rising
Meanwhile, due to continuous heavy rain last night, water levels in Nullah Leh have also risen, prompting the administration to issue a pre-alert for the flood-prone areas of Katarian and Gawalmandi.
The water level in Nullah Leh has risen to 15.5 feet at Katarian and 8.75 feet at Gawalmandi, with officials warning that an alert will be issued if the water levels reach 15.7 feet in Katarian and 14.1 feet in Gawalmandi.
he heavy rainfall has resulted in a total of 36.7mm of rain being recorded across the twin cities, with specific areas seeing even higher amounts. The rain gauging centre recorded 42mm of rainfall in Golra, 27mm in Bokra, and 35mm at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) station.
