KARACHI: Karachi gears up to implement security measures that will result in road closures on April 23 (tomorrow). The announcement, made by the city’s traffic police, comes in response to heightened security concerns surrounding the high-profile visit of Iranian President to Pakistan.

Key thoroughfares affected by the closures include Club Road, which will be inaccessible from PIDC to Metropole, and Dr Ziauddin Road, slated for closure from Ziauddin Signal to PIDC Chowk. Additionally, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road will be off-limits from Khajoor Chowk to PIDC. Alternative routes have been designated to facilitate traffic diversion and mitigate congestion.
Passengers travelling from Sultanabad will be rerouted via Khajoor Chowk and Aiwan-e-Sadar Road through PIDC Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road. Those journeying from Sharea Faisal to Sultanabad can opt for a detour through Club Chowk, Clifton Bridge, and Boat Basin.
In a bid to streamline traffic flow, commuters from Khaliquz Zaman Road, Ghizri, will be directed to navigate through Ziauddin signal and Hoshan Chowk, leading to Fawara Chowk and Aiwan-e-Sadar via Metropole. Similarly, passengers commuting from Shaheen Complex will be guided to Khajoor Chowk, followed by a route through Aiwan-e-Sadar Road and Awari Tower Clifton.

The traffic police advises motorists to plan their journeys accordingly, utilising alternative routes to minimise disruptions during the road closures.
In a related development, a private hotel is slated for temporary takeover by the government from April 22 to 24, coinciding with the duration of the presidential visit. Consequently, all reservations at the hotel have been cancelled, and on-site businesses will suspend operations.
