ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet today (Thursday) after Asr prayers at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Sariab Road, Quetta, to determine the sighting of the Muharram 1447 Hijri moon.
The meeting will be chaired by committee head Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad. An official announcement regarding the start of the new Islamic year will be made after reviewing moon sighting reports from across the country.

Alongside the central meeting, zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also convene in provincial capitals, including Islamabad’s Kohsar Block.
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has released its scientific forecast, stating that the Muharram crescent was born on June 25, 2025, at 3:32 PM (PST), based on astronomical data.
If the crescent is sighted as predicted, Muharram 1, 1447 AH will fall on Friday, June 27, and Ashura will be observed on Sunday, July 6.
While SUPARCO’s data offers a scientific guideline, the final decision rests with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal committee.
