Russian ambassador assures JUI-F of playing a role for Gaza ceasefire

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has welcomed the Russian Federation’s decision to recognise the Afghan government in a meeting with Ambassador Albert P Khorev in Islamabad, JUI-F said on Friday.
Russia became the first country to recognize the Taliban government on July 3 since their takeover of Kabul in 2021.
A JUI-F statement said the Russian envoy lauded the party’s struggle against the colonial system and both sides agreed to fight joimtly against colonialism with unity and to use mutual ties to protect interests.
The Jamiat leader called Russia’s plan to hold a conference on the theme of Asia-Europe Security for the resolution of mutual disputes an important need of the hour, according to the statement.
Alexander Grushko, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, said in May that his country has been holding security discussions in Moscow with multiple countries and has proposed that as Russia is now actively involved in the process of forming a new Eurasian security structure, several European countries should become part of any new Eurasian security system, according to reports.
Maulana also appealed to Russia to intervene and play a role in the safeguarding the people of Gaza. The Russian Ambassador assured of a ceasefire in Gaza and playing a role for Gazans. The Russian embassy has not issued any statement about the meeting held at the residence of the JUI-F chief.
However, the JUI-F statement has said that detailed discussions on international, regional, and national situations were held in the Friday’s night meeting. Maulana Fazl and the Russian ambassador expressed satisfaction over support of both sides to Iran in the Iran-Israel conflict.
They also showed concerns at the Palestinian issue and the human tragedy in Gaza, the statement reads. Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman appealed to Russia for intervention and role in preventing the displacement of Gaza’s residents.
The Russian Ambassador assured the JUI-F leader to play a role in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and addressing the displacement of Gaza’s residents.
The JUI chief also hosted dinner in honor of the Russian Ambassador. JUI-F in-charge of foreign affairs Jalaluddin Advocate and Maulana’s son Maulana Asjad Mahmood were also present at the meeting.
