ISLAMABAD: Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Alexei Overchuk, arrives in Pakistan today for a two-day visit in which he will meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

The meeting is happening on the backdrop of considerations for Liquified Natural Gas transactions between the countries in the future, as reported by The News. This is one part of a multifaceted cooperation focusing on energy and alleviating economic pressure.

In 2023, Pakistan began purchasing Russian crude oil at a discounted rate to address high fuel prices.

Additionally, in September of last year Pakistan received the first shipment of liquefied petroleum gas from Russia.

Russia has also offered their assistance in reviving the steel mills. Discussion for a new steel mill on the existing site of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) is set to be had following a report submitted to the National Assembly by the Ministry of Industries and Production.

Alexei Overchuk’s arrival today alongside a high-level delegation is yet another step in a relationship between the two countries, one built on goodwill, amity, and trust as stated by Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch.
