SC administrative committee addresses urgent legal matters

ISLAMABAD: The Administrative Committee under the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act met with Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Aminuddin Khan in attendance.
The meeting was important as it addressed several urgent matters, including the handling of emergency cases, which are mandated by law to be heard within 14 days.

The meeting previously scheduled could not take place due to the non-availability of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
A letter from Justice Mansoor Ali Shah regarding his absence from meeting was not initially provided to the committee members. However, the secretary of the committee later informed the members about the contents of Justice Shah’s letter.
During the proceedings, the management committee decided to constitute a larger bench based on a majority vote. This decision was made in light of the legal requirement to address emergency cases promptly.
The committee also resolved to set aside several old cases, indicating a focus on streamlining the court’s docket.
The SC administrative committee decided to fix the action related to Article 63A for Monday/ A 5-member bench, headed by the Chief Justice himself, was formed specifically for this purpose.
Meanwhile, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan was not included in the bench for the audio leaks case due to his relevance to Justice Munib Akhtar who is involved in the matter.
The meeting was held in the Chief Justice’s chamber, with participation from Justice Aminuddin Khan and the Registrar.
