SC full court meeting agrees on plan of action to adjudicate pending cases

ISLAMABAD: A full court meeting chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi decided to promptly adjudicate backlog of pending cases.

Chief Justice Yahya Afridi expressed strong commitment to dispose of the growing number of pending cases.

In the full court meeting, the performance of the Supreme Court regarding the registration and resolution of cases was reviewed. All permanent judges including Justice Mansoor Ali Shah attended the meeting. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah attended the meeting via video link.

During the session, Supreme Court Registrar Jazila Aslam presented a report on pending cases, mentioning that 59,191 cases remain unresolved.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah also put forward a one-month plan related to the case management system, alongside additional suggestions for improvements.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s proposal included phased plans for addressing the backlog and enhancing procedural efficiency, with one-month, three-month, and six-month timelines.

It was also noted that two- and three-member benches will be constituted for both civil and criminal cases, aiming for expedited decisions.

The judges shared their views on accelerating case resolutions.

Chief Justice Afridi expressed appreciation for the judges’ interest and input on resolving the backlog.

The next full court session is scheduled for December 2.
