ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday morning, the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court (SC) heard a petition regarding the dismissal of all government officials who are not performing their duties.

The petitioner had requested the apex court to rule on firing all government officials who are not working. The petition failed to clarify whether it meant the officials who are not posted on a position, or those who are shirking away from their responsibilities, or those who are refraining from their responsibilities due to corruption tendencies.

Raising the issue of this lack of clarity, Justice Jamal Mandokhail asked the petitioner, “What was it that you wanted done which wasn’t done?”

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar added, “You didn’t identify any government officials. You didn’t write anyone’s name.”

Justice Ayesha Malik said, “Your petition requests that all government employees who are not working should be dismissed.” To this Justice Mandokhail added, “What does this mean, we should dismiss the President, Prime Minister, Speaker and Parliamentarians, everyone?”

To this the petitioner replied, “The system has been destroyed, no one wants to hear the truth”.

Justice Malik asked the petitioner, “Why didn’t you approach the relevant institutions?”

The petitioner said, “No one listens, that’s why I came to the Supreme Court.”

Justice Malik said that it was not the justification to bring such a petition to the Supreme Court.

The constitutional bench later dismissed the petition, declaring it inadmissible.
