SC verdict on reserved seats: Nawaz Sharif to consult allies

LAHORE:  Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif has decided to consult with allies regarding the Supreme Court’s decision on specific seats allocated to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the National and Provincial Assemblies.

According to party sources, Nawaz Sharif plans to consult with Asif Ali Zardari, Chaudhry Shujaat, and others. A PML-N meeting regarding this matter will take place on Saturday in Model Town. The party’s legal team will also provide a briefing to the party president on the current legal situation.

The Supreme Court on Friday overturned the decisions of both the Peshawar High Court and the Election Commission, mandating the allocation of reserved seats to PTI.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa announced the 8-5 majority verdict, leading a 13-member full court of the SC.

The SC also granted PTI recognition as a political party in both Parliament and provincial assemblies.
