SCBA calls lawyers’ convention, seeks elections in 90 days

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, the executive committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SBCA) convened a meeting on Monday where it was decided that an all-Pakistan lawyers’ convention will be held in Islamabad on September 7 to discuss issues related to elections.
The convention will see the participation of lawyers from all across the country to discuss matters pertaining to elections and the fundamental rights of the Pakistani people, the SCBA said.
Reaffirming the commitment to upholding democratic principles, the SBCA emphasised that the basic right to vote cannot be denied to the people of Pakistan.
The SCBA highlighted that any delay in conducting general elections would amount to a violation of fundamental rights.

Furthermore, the SBCA underlined that in order to ensure the continuity of democracy and adherence to the rule of law, elections are imperative within the next 90 days.
The call for this convention stems from the shared belief in the preservation of democratic values and the legal framework that governs the nation, the SCBA said.
The announcement of the all Pakistan lawyers’ convention comes as a platform for legal professionals to discuss, strategize, and collectively address the critical electoral issues facing the country.
