SCBA elections begin today across country

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE / KARACHI: The annual elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) are being held today across the country, with polling underway from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM without interruption.

A total of 4,379 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots from across Pakistan. A one-on-one contest is being held for the most coveted position of SCBA President between Haroon-ul-Rashid and Tauseef Asif. Haroon-ul-Rashid is contesting on behalf of the Asma Jahangir Group, while Tauseef Asif is backed by the Hamid Khan-led Professional Group.

The race for Secretary is also closely watched, featuring Mian Irfan Akram of the Professional Panel and Malik Zahid Aslam Awan of the Independent Panel.

For the position of Vice President (Punjab), there is a three-way contest between Muhammad Habib Qureshi, Chaudhry Arshad Hussain, and Khalid Masood Sindhu.

From Sindh, the battle for Vice President is between Lutfullah Arain (Independent Panel) and Malik Khushal Khan (Professional Panel).

For the Executive Committee seats from Sindh, the Independent Panel has fielded Syed Zulfiqar Haider Shah and Dr. Shahnawaz, while the Professional Panel is represented by Saadat Yar Khan and Syed Jafar Ali Shah.

VOTER BREAKDOWN

Polling is taking place across multiple regions of the country. In Punjab, Lahore leads with 1,460 registered voters, followed by Rawalpindi with 805, Multan with 315, and Bahawalpur with 145 voters. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 593 lawyers are expected to cast their votes. From Sindh, 741 lawyers are participating, with 537 voting in Karachi and 204 in Larkana, Sukkur, and Hyderabad. Meanwhile, 322 voters are casting their ballots from Balochistan.

OVERSIGHT AND SUPERVISION

In Karachi, polling is being conducted under the supervision of the Sindh Bar Council and the Advocate General Sindh.

The elections are being held in a charged yet orderly atmosphere, reflecting the importance of the SCBA in Pakistan’s legal and constitutional landscape. Results are expected to be compiled and announced shortly after the polling ends.
