SCO summit: eight documents signed, Russia takes Heads of State Council chair

ISLAMABAD: The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit is being held at Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad, where leaders from member countries have gathered to discuss critical regional issues and forge new agreements.
As per latest reports, eight significant documents have been signed during the summit, aimed at enhancing cooperation and coordination among member states.
Regional cooperation is essential for development, PM at SCO summit
One of the signed documents was the declaration for the 23rd meeting of the heads of SCO countries, which outlines the organisation’s objectives and commitments moving forward. Additionally, leaders approved budget matters, paving the way for more effective governance and operational capabilities within the SCO framework.
Another notable moment during the summit was when the chairmanship of the SCO Heads of State Council was handed over to Russia. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to Russia on assuming this important role, highlighting the nation’s pivotal position within the organisation. Russia will host the next SCO summit in 2025, promising to continue the momentum of collaboration established during this summit.
Economic dialogue among member countries was another key focus, with an agreement reached to bolster trade and investment opportunities. The summit also witnessed the signing of a document pertaining to the SCO Secretariat, aimed at enhancing its operational effectiveness.

Furthermore, a document was signed to establish the Regional Executive Committee for Counter-Terrorism among member states, underscoring the commitment to collective security and counter-terrorism efforts.
