LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has enforced Section 144 in Lahore, prohibiting the sale of sacrificial animals on highways, streets, and alleys.
Under this restriction, the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals are restricted to eight designated livestock markets within the city. This ban is effective immediately and will remain in place until June 20.
According to the Home Department, the decision to impose section 144 in Lahore was made following a recommendation from the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, who emphasized the need for such measures in the public interest.

The aim is to prevent chaotic situations on the roads and ensure that the city’s traffic flow remains uninterrupted.
The designated markets are expected to provide a controlled environment for the buying and selling of animals, reducing the likelihood of congestion and maintaining public order. The authorities have warned that any violation of Section 144 will be met with strict action to ensure compliance.
Earlier the Punjab Home Department announced various Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in view of Eidul-Azha to ensure public convenience and security.
According to the spokesperson of the Punjab Home Department, banned organizations will not be allowed to collect sacrificial hides. Only institutions registered with the Charitable Commission will be permitted to receive sacrificial hides. Additionally, Section 144 will be imposed to prohibit the burning of heads and hooves in public places.
Swimming and boating in rivers, streams, and dams will also be banned during Eid. Special security arrangements have been instructed for Eidgahs, mosques, and madrasas across Punjab. Similarly, all cattle markets will also have enhanced security measures in place, according to Punjab SOPs for Eidul Azha.
